Maleny, Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Relaxed, romantic, fun, happy and scenic.

Those were the five words Diminee and Tom used to describe their Maleny Manor wedding, and looking back through their gallery, I don’t think they could have summed it up any better.

Set amongst the rolling hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, their day was everything I love about photographing weddings at Maleny Manor — beautiful scenery, plenty of time outside with their favourite people, gorgeous styling and a couple who were genuinely just very, very happy to be getting married.

A Relaxed Wedding Day in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Diminee and Tom originally met while working together at Optus, before reconnecting eight years later online.

They’d been together for almost three years by the time their wedding came around, although they both said they knew pretty early on that this was it. Their relationship is something they describe as strong, loving and fun — and that comes through so clearly in their photos.

Even the proposal was wonderfully low-key. Tom had convinced Diminee that her ring was delayed after there was an issue with the setting, but once he actually had it in his hands, apparently waiting wasn’t his strong suit. Less than 48 hours later, he’d organised a casual picnic at Newport and completely surprised her.

That same relaxed feeling carried through to their wedding day.

They weren’t interested in spending half their afternoon being pulled away for photos. They wanted time together, time with the family and friends they’d invited, and the chance to actually enjoy their garden party.

And honestly? That’s exactly how I think a wedding should feel.

A Garden Ceremony at Maleny Manor

One of my favourite things about a Maleny Manor wedding is just how green everything is.

Surrounded by gardens and the rolling hills of the Hinterland, Diminee and Tom kept their ceremony beautifully classic and let the setting do most of the talking.

Diminee wore an incredible Karen Willis Holmes gown, while Tom’s black tux kept everything timeless. Soft white florals and greenery tied everything together without competing with the landscape.

After the ceremony, they stayed around the gardens with everyone for drinks and congratulations before we snuck away for family photos and a few portraits.

No disappearing for two hours. No turning the afternoon into one enormous photoshoot.

Just enough time to create some beautiful portraits before sending them straight back to the party.

Wedding Portraits Around Maleny Manor

This is one of the reasons I love photographing weddings at Maleny Manor so much.

You really don’t have to go anywhere.

Within a short walk, you’ve got open hinterland views, established gardens, tree-lined paths and those big green landscapes that make Maleny feel like Maleny.

Diminee and Tom wanted a combination of candid photographs and a few more intentionally posed portraits, so we kept things moving and used a handful of different spots around the property rather than spending forever chasing photos.

The result feels like them: romantic without being too serious, classic without feeling stiff, and with plenty of laughing in between.

An Elegant Maleny Manor Reception

Back inside, the reception kept that romantic, timeless feeling going.

White florals, soft neutral tones and candlelight filled the room, with the warm timber and windows overlooking the property making everything feel cosy as the sun disappeared outside.

I always love photographing the little details before everyone comes in — the tables completely untouched, menus perfectly in place and candles lit — because approximately five minutes later it’s full of wine glasses, handbags and people having the absolute best time 😂

And that’s when it gets even better.

Diminee and Tom’s cake by Cakes by Nola kept things classic with a simple tiered design, before the reception very quickly moved into speeches, plenty of laughs and the dance floor.

When the Dance Floor Takes Over

By nighttime, any remaining formality was very much gone.

This is always one of my favourite parts of a wedding gallery because it feels completely different from the portraits earlier in the day. Jackets come off, shoes disappear and suddenly everyone has forgotten there’s a camera in the room.

And judging by the last few photos from Diminee and Tom’s gallery, their guests absolutely understood the assignment.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Maleny Manor

There are plenty of beautiful wedding venues on the Sunshine Coast, but Maleny Manor has been a Hinterland favourite for a reason.

From a photography perspective, I love that everything happens in one place. You can move from the ceremony to garden-party drinks, family photos and portraits without spending half the day travelling between locations.

And for couples like Diminee and Tom, who don’t want to miss anything, that makes such a difference.

You get the incredible Maleny scenery and plenty of variety for your photos, while still being able to head back to your guests and enjoy the celebration you spent all that time planning.

That’s always going to win in my books.

Planning a Maleny Manor Wedding?

If you’re planning your own Maleny Manor wedding, my biggest piece of advice is to give yourself permission to actually enjoy it.

You don’t need to disappear for hours to get beautiful photographs. Some of my favourite images happen in the in-between moments anyway — hugging someone after the ceremony, laughing with your wedding party, wandering through the gardens together or completely losing it on the dance floor later that night.

Diminee and Tom’s wedding was the perfect example of that.

Beautiful without feeling overly formal, romantic without taking itself too seriously and, most importantly, a day they actually got to spend together.
